Beauty treatments can be pricey, and to be quite honest a lot of the time it’s actually more fun, easier and just as cheap to make your own beauty treatments at home out of natural ingredients that you’ll find in any kitchen or supermarket.
Nature has a great way of providing solutions to most of our skincare issues, and there are perfect natural ingredients that you can whiz up in a blender or even just with a mixing bowl and a spatula.
If You Have Oily Skin
Oily skin can feel like a pain but actually you should think of it as a blessing – more surface oil means that your skin will keep well hydrated and you should be less prone to early signs of ageing like wrinkles or crow’s feet. Still, you want to keep the oil under control, and the classic kitchen ingredient for a mask for oily skin is avocado.
Avocado Face Mask
- One egg
- Lemon juice
- Half an avocado
Separate the yolk from the egg white, put the yolk to one side and add a teaspoon of lemon juice to the white. Mash the mixture into half an avocado until it’s soft, then whiz in a blender until it forms a thick mixture. Apply this mask to your face and leave it on for around 20 minutes. Rinse afterwards with warm water and pat your face dry.
If You Have Normal Skin
If your skin is what’s called normal, then you are very lucky! But even normal skin needs a boost occasionally. This versatile make your own beauty treatment is said to have been used by Marie Antoinette but whether that’s the case or not, it still seems to work.
- One egg
- Lemon juice
- four tbsp skimmed milk powder
- one tbsp witch hazel
Add the ingredients to a blender and mix well, or mix using a fork/whisk. Apply the mixture to the skin on your face and neck, and leave it to dry for around 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. If you have especially dry or sensitive skin, you might find the lemon juice and witch hazel a little harsh, so give it a miss or add extra moisturiser.
Face Mask Beauty Treatments for Dry Skin
Dry skin needs a little extra nourishment from beauty treatments, so the natural ingredients in any homemade beauty products should reflect that. A good face mask should pamper your dry skin and leave it feeling soft and hydrated.

- half a tsp olive oil
- a few drops rose water
Mix the ingredients together thoroughly in a blender or a bowl with a whisk. Once you’ve got them to a thick consistency, apply to your face and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash the mask off with warm water and pat your face dry.
Face Mask for Sensitive Skin
Having sensitive skin is one very good reason to avoid shop bought beauty treatments and products as they can bring your skin out in an itchy rash with very little warning. Of course, if you have an allergy or a sensitivity to any of the natural ingredients in make your own beauty treatments you could end up with the same reaction so be careful.
- Honey
Yes, this is the best natural ingredient for sensitive skin, and a soothing alternative to commercial creams. Warm some honey in a bowl, and leave it to cool until it’s just lukewarm. Take the honey and apply it to your face…leave on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with some warm water. Pat your face dry.
